
While the Europe Hotel and Resort in Killarney has three good reasons to celebrate, having won the best in class, best hotel and supreme champion categories at the Good Food Ireland Awards, there was a great celebration also for the team at Realt Na Mara Shellfish Company in Cromane who scooped the Fish and Seafood Producer of the Year prize.
Sharon Sugrue, Emmet Casey and Micheál Sugrue were in attendance at the lavish prizegiving luncheon at the K-Club in Kildare to accept the award with Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Simon Coveney, the guest of honour.
This fantastic young team of entrepreneurs in Cromane has achieved their success through hard work and innovation and they are delighted to have risen to the top in their chosen field.
Directors Emmet Casey and Micheál Sugrue have been involved in the local aquaculture industry for many years and both and created the brand Realt na Mara Shellfish Ltd in 2015. Since then they have built a certified and approved purification shellfish facility and the business is the culmination of generations of hard work within the local fishing industry, from which Micheál and Emmet learned their expertise from.
Sharon Sugrue graduated from college in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in wildlife Bbology and she is an experienced laboratory analyst, skilled in environmental awareness, marine biology, fisheries and management from her time working in the research industry.
Sharon’s current role as manager within the family business includes supervising the purification process and ensuring all shellfish is for local and European markets.
