
BRIGHT spark pupils from Gaelscoil Faithleann in Killarney proved themselves to be real masterminds when they triumphed in the 11-13 age category in the annual Killarney Credit Union Schools’ Quiz.
It was the third year in a row that they took the top prize and, in a further boost, they also finished runners-up in the under 11 category.
The INEC in Killarney was packed to capacity for the occasion with 74 primary school teams from all over South Kerry competing.
In the under 13 section first place went to Gaelscoil Faithleann represented by Dara Ní Chárthaigh, Muireann Ní Dhonnchú, Senan Mac Coitir and Lily Ní Churnáin.
Second place went to St Oliver’s National School in Killarney, represented by Colm O’Brien, Mark O’Shea, Kevin Looney, Conor Regan and third place went to Cahir National School, Kenmare with team members Cathal McSwiney, Gaspar Laudran O’Connor, Connie Guerin and Yvonne Daly.

A fourth place position went to Scoil Bhríde Loreto with team members Laura Healy,Paddy Moore, David Courtney and Fionn McCarthy.
In the under 11 category, first place went to St John’s National School, Kenmare represented by Tiarnan O’Shea, Laura Stauch, Orla O’Reilly, Billy Lynch and second place went to the Gaelscoil Faithleann team members of Amelia Ní Chearbhaill Cheallaigh, Aodhagán O’Sulleabháin, Leo Mac Aílín and Siún Ní Mhuiríosa.
Third place was awarded to Fossa National School which was represented by Ben Kavanagh, Cathal O’Halloran, Jack Sheehan and Donncha Kissane O’Sullivan. The fourth place prize was won by St Oliver’s National School represented by Mark Looney, Anna Kate Neeson, Maria Clayton and Jack Culloty.
Killarney Credit Union Marketing Officer, Karena McCarthy, remarked: “We would like thank all those that participated in the quiz this year and the parents, pupils and teachers, staff and volunteers who attended on the day”
The winners received trophies and a perpetual cup and the first and second placed winning teams in each category will go on to represent their schools at the Chapter 23 Kerry and West Limerick regional finals at Ballyroe House Hotel, Tralee on Sunday, March 1.
