A LOCALISED version of the Ryder Cup is in store when young golfers from Killarney get an opportunity to measure their progress against players from Scottsdale in Arizona as part of an exciting twinning initiative.
The Killarney Town Twinning Committee, chaired by Seán Counihan, is actively promoting sporting and cultural exchanges between the two destinations.
The initial plan is for four student golfers from Killarney to travel to Scottsdale in October 2022 and for four teenagers from the US city – two males and two females – to spend some time in Killarney to test their skills on the local courses and to challenge local players.
Both sets of players will also avail of expert tuition while on the exchange.
After that the hope is to increase the number of golfers that will be part of the exchange.
Meanwhile, at the annual general meeting of the Killarney Twinning Association Seán Counihan was reelected as chairman for a further two-year term and other officers elected include Sheila Dickson (secretary), Michael O’Leary (assistant secretary) and Seán O’Grady (treasurer).
