Yes Minister, we’re Looking Good

Minister of State Brendan Griffin will present the awards

JUNIOR Tourism Minister Brendan Griffin will pay a special visit to the town with the golden touch next Monday night to present the various category awards to the winners of the 2017 Killarney Looking Good Competition.

The minister will also reveal the identity of the recipient of the sought-after overall award which is selected from a shortlist of the individual category winners.

The awards ceremony will be held in the Killarney Plaza Hotel (7.00pm) and there will be a great sense of achievements in the room as Killarney reflects on another great Tidy Towns year which saw the town retain its Gold Medal status in the national competition and increase its overall mark by five points, rising to 328 out of a possible 450.

Killarney gained two points in the wildlife, habitats and natural amenities category, one extra point in the built environment and streetscape category, an extra point for tidiness and litter control and an additional point in the approach roads, street sand lanes category.

The adjudicator’s report said it was clear that the community lives up to its motto “working together we can achieve so much more”.

Dedicated members of the Town Meitheal – who donate countless hours during their spare time to improving the visual image of the town every week – were out in force all year to ensure several important tasks were completed.
