THE Killarney Water Rescue Unit will be the main beneficiary of this year’s Killarney Rotary Club Evening of Wine and Art which will be held in the Malton Hotel on Thursday, November 26.

The unit, which provides a vital service on a strictly voluntary basis, has been in existence for 21 years and depends entirely on public donations to enable it to continue.

Other local organisations that will benefit this year will be Killarney Order of Malta, the St Brendan’s College microtrack project, Gaelscoil Faithleann, Coolick National School and Killarney Athletic FC.

A raffle on the night will be co-ordinated by the Irish Pilgrimage Trust and the proceeds of the cloakroom will support the Kerry Stars Special Olympics Club.

Christmas shoppers will get a chance to snap up gifts of paintings and crafts while Kerry Hospice Foundation members and members of the Killarney branch of the Irish Kidney Association will be selling charity Christmas cards.

The event, which will have a €20 admission fee this year, is always hugely popular and last year it attracted close to 1,000 people.

“Art sales were significantly up last year,” Killarney Rotary President John O’Sullivan confirmed.

Wine and beer-tasting opportunities will be on offer while festive nibbles and speciality cheeses will also be on the menu.

Among the highlights of the night will be a charity auction of artwork while patrons will also have a great opportunity to meet the artists and purchase some unique pieces of art.
