The fact that Killarney National Park is to feature extensively and in remarkable detail in a new Wild Isles nature documentary presented by David Attenborough has been described as a tremendous boost for Killarney and all of Kerry and a massive pre-season bonus for the tourism industry in the county.
Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce senior executive, Bridget O’Keeffe, said it is a wonderful compliment to the park that such a legendary conservationist and broadcaster has zoomed in on local nature, wildlife and the magnificent scenery that can be enjoyed in the 26,000-acre park.
“This is hugely significant and it will be a major advantage in showcasing the charms and the beauty of the national park to such a wide audience around the world, both on the BBC and online,” she said.
The programme featuring Killarney will be televised on BBC One at 7.00pm this Sunday and it will also be available on BBC iPlayer.
Ms O’Keeffe said she has seen advance extracts of the programme and the camera crews have superb footage of two stags battling ferociously during the deer rutting season in the park.

The programme, greatly enhanced by Attenborough’s soothing tones and expert knowledge, will also explore several walking trails winding through lakes, glens, waterfalls and forests, against a striking mountain backdrop.
“Mr Attenborough will celebrate the wonders of the place we call home, revealing the surprising and dramatic habitats that exist right on our doorstep. The programme is being described as home like you’ve never seen it before,” said the Chamber senior executive.
Now aged 96 and renowned for his encyclopedic knowledge of nature, which has inspired several top-rated television documentaries, Attenborough has studied Killarney National Park and the west coast for the new series that will attract views in their hundreds and thousands.
Filmed over the course of three years and using the very latest technology, the five-part series explores and celebrates the beautiful wildlife found in Britain and Ireland with different habitats featured, including woodlands, grasslands, freshwater and marine.
