THE Killarney restaurant owned and previously run by movie star Michael Fassbender’s parents has come on the market.
West End House is being offered for sale or to let through local auctioneer DNG Ted Healy.
The landmark 200-year-old building on lower New Street, which was previously a nursing home and school of midwifery, was operated as a busy restaurant by Josef and Adele Fassbender for many years.
Their son Michael worked there during his school holidays before he left Killarney to pursue a career as an actor.
When the Fassbenders retired and the building was leased, the restaurant was renovated and, later, extensively refurbished after a kitchen fire caused significant damage.
It has been leased by a number of business interests in recent years and it established a reputation as a fine dining restaurant.
The eye-catching building, built by the Earls of Kenmare, is in a prime location, adjacent to St Mary’s Cathedral and close to the entrance to Killarney National Park at Knockreer.
