GARDAI investigating a significant spate of weekend burglaries have today renewed their appeal to the public to come forward with any information that might be of assistance in tracking down the culprits.
It has now emerged that a total of six private residences in the greater Killorglin area were targeted late last Saturday night and early Sunday morning and the thieves made off with a substantial quantity of goods.
Their modus operandi was to force to force open doors or windows, usually at the rear of the properties, before ransacking the houses in search of valuables.
All the properties were unoccupied at the time and the thieves went through each house room by room before making off with jewellery, cash, iPod docking stations and other electrical goods, perfume and anything of value they could get their hands on.
Superintendent Flor Murphy of Killarney Garda Station told KillarneyToday,com this Tuesday morning that all the raids took place between 9 o’clock on Saturday night at 10am on Sunday. Areas targeted by the thieves included Lynch Heights, Reen and Callinafercy in Killorglin.
Another burglary was attempted in the Beaufort area, also on Saturday night, but the culprits fled empty handed when they struggled to gain entry to the property.
“This is a very serious matter and we are very anxious to track down those responsible,” Supt Murphy said.
“We would appeal to anybody that might have noticed anything suspicious in the area on Saturday night or on Sunday morning to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
“Perhaps they might have noticed a vehicle parked in an unusual spot or somebody acting a little out of the ordinary in the areas involved,” he added.
