Webinar tonight to outline cycle path plans

The plans for the proposed cycle paths will be presented and discussed online

A GREAT opportunity for the public to learn all about plans to develop five new cycle paths in Killarney town will be presented tonight when Kerry County Council hosts a special webinar on the matter.

Because of the current public health restrictions, the display of plans and the relevant consultation in person, which would normally take place, is restricted.

This Wednesday night at 7.00pm, however, members of the public can view a presentation on the proposed infrastructure.

Anyone interested in joining the online webinar must register in advance via the Kerry County Council website, kerrycoco.ie or by clicking the link on the Kerry County Council promotion on the KillarneyToday.com homepage.

The direct link to register is: https://www.kerrycoco.ie/webinar-on-new-cycle-paths-for-killarney/.

Kerry County Council is inviting all interested parties to participate in the virtual event which will outline the proposals in great detail.

The proposed new cycling infrastructure includes cycle paths on Rock Road, Lewis Road, Park Road, Gaelscoil Faithleann Road and Deerpark Road.

Mayor of Killarney Cllr Brendan Cronin has encouraged the public to engage with the consultation process

Submissions and observations on the plans must be submitted to the council by February 17 and a report on submissions received will be presented at a meeting to the Killarney Municipal District councillors for consideration.

Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Brendan Cronin, has encouraged people to participate in the webinar and to engage in the consultation process.

“The new cycle paths would measure a cumulative total of almost four kilometres and would greatly enhance the cycling infrastructure in the town,” he said.

“This is a very exciting development for Killarney and I hope everyone will make their views known on what is proposed,” Cllr Cronin added.

The Part VIII process for such a development, under the relevant planning legislation, involves the public display of all relevant plans which can be downloaded from the Kerry County Council website.

The details of the plans will be outlined during the webinar by Kerry County Council senior engineer, David Doyle, and comments and questions can also be dealt with during the webinar.

The five proposed cycle paths are:

  • Rock Road – Car park northward to N22 roundabout at Cleeny
  • Upper Lewis Road – St Anne’s Road junction to south of Bridgefield estate
  • Park Road – Park Road roundabout to the Friary junction
  • Deerpark Road – Park Road junction to Gaelscoil Road junction
  • Gaelscoil Road – Deerpark road to Killarney Sport and Leisure Centre
