TWO crashes involving deer straying out on to main roads have occurred in the Killarney area over the past two days.
The latest incident happened on the busy main Killarney to Cork road early this Monday morning, just 500 meters from the railway crossing at Minish.

The deer was killed on impact when it ran straight in front of a passing vehicle and gardaí were at the scene shortly after 8.00am to ensure safety measures were implemented.
The other incident occurred on Saturday morning when a young lady on her way to work in Killarney from the Beaufort direction was involved in a collision with a deer on the road at Fossa. The driver wasn’t injured but is understood to have been quite shaken.
There has been mounting controversy in recent days following the implementation of what has been described as a significant cull of both the Killarney Red deer and the Japanese Sika in and around Killarney National Park
It is understood that well in excess of 100 deer have been shot by National Parks and Wildlife Service staff in an effort to keep deer numbers at sustainable levels, to protect woodland and other habitats and to avoid road traffic accidents involving wandering deer.
