THE Kerry team to play All-Ireland champions Dublin in the National League opener in Croke Park this Saturday night has a familiar ring to it, despite a number of players being unavailable.
With Jack Barry and Diarmuid O’Connor in All-Ireland Junior Final action with Na Gaeil earlier in the day, and David Moran taking a break for the opening stages of the league, big Tommy Walsh will drop back to midfield where he will partner Templenoe’s Adrian Spillane.
New captain David Clifford will feature in a lethal full forward line where he will be flanked by James O’Donoghue and Paul Geaney while Gavin O’Brien of Kerins O’Rahillys – who had a great league campaign last year – returns to the half-forward line alongside Kenmare duo Sean O’Shea and Stephen O’Brien.
With Shane Ryan again between the posts, he will have an experienced rearguard in front of him with Jason Foley, Tadhg Morley and Shane Enright in the full back line and Paul Murphy, Gavin Crowley and Brian Ó Beaglaoich ahead of them.
From the team that started in the All-Ireland final replay last September, the only four absentees are Moran, Barry, O’Connor and Tom O’Sullivan.
Kerry: Shane Ryan, Jason Foley, Tadhg Morley, Shane Enright, Paul Murphy, Gavin Crowley, Brian Ó Beaglaoich, Tommy Walsh, Adrian Spillane, Gavin O’Brien, Sean O’Shea, Stephen O’Brien, James O’Donoghue, David Clifford, Paul Geaney.
