Walk your pooch and support a good cause

Members of the public are being urged to take their dogs for a walk and raise funds for a good cause

THE people of Killarney are being encouraged to bring their dogs for a 5km walk any day during the month of August in support of environmental watchdog An Taisce.

The environmental heritage charity is hosting its inaugural Eco Dog Walk throughout the month and each participant who sets off for a stroll with their pooch is asked to make a small donation, or organise a fundraiser, to help support the work of the charity.

Members of the public can take part by bringing their dog on a 5km walk during the month of August and the initiative offers the perfect opportunity enjoy the wonderful facilities Killarney has to offer while supporting a good cause.

An Taisce – the organisation behind the National Spring Clean and Green Schools campaigns – encourages walkers to come together while remaining apart by using the dedicated hashtag #ecodogwalk on social media to share photos of their dogs and themselves enjoying their walks.

The money raised will help local An Taisce associations whose passionate volunteers work tirelessly to protect and conserve the built and natural heritage.

All donors will be entered in a draw for a chance to win some fantastic prizes and, in addition, the dog who raises the most money on their sponsorship card will earn a very special reward for their humans–  a family weekend break for four.

Registration for the event is now open via the An Taisce website, antaisce.org, and Facebook page.
