DALY’S SuperValu in Killarney has promised to organise “a proper celebration” to mark its record-breaking National Lottery win when the Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted.

Spokesman John Daly said everybody is still in a state of shock and disbelief that they sold last Saturday’s €9,772,175 jackpot ticket, just four days after selling a €500,000 EuroMillions Plus ticket.

Although the lucky winner remains a mystery and has still to touch base with Lottery headquarters, it is known that the winning Quick Pick ticket was bought on the day of the draw and it has been confirmed that it is Kerry’s biggest ever win.

“You wait over 30 years for one and then two come along at once. It really is a magical story for everybody in the community here in Killarney,” said John Daly who runs the supermarket with his dad Jimmy, uncle Billy and cousin Derek

He said with the strict travel restrictions currently in place, there are no tourists in town so it is most likely that the winner was a local.

The winning numbers for the €9,772,175 Lotto jackpot were 4, 9, 15, 27, 29, 34 and the bonus number was 17.

John added: “It has been a tough number of weeks for everybody involved in the shop and all of our staff have just been amazing, implementing the systems in-store to ensure the safety of our customers. This win will give us all an incredible boost.”

A National Lottery spokesperson confirmed that Kerry’s biggest ever Lotto winner has still not claimed the prize.

The lucky winner has been told to sign the back of the ticket and contact the prize claims team on 1800-6660222 or email claims@lottery.ie to make arrangements to collect the prize when it is safe to do so.”

The National Lottery has reminded players that it has extended the period of time that lucky winners can collect prizes to encourage people to stay at home and not require them to make any unnecessary journeys during the current public health emergency.
