
TRAINSPOTTERS are in for a rare treat next Tuesday when the Belmond Grand Hibernian luxury touring train is scheduled to visit Killarney on a trial run from Dublin.
The first paying customers will visit the town on August 31 as part of a week-long VIP train holiday and it already travelled to Mallow from Inchicore yesterday before returning to Heuston Station.
The train is scheduled to visit Cork, Killarney, Waterford, Galway, Athlone, Westport and Dundalk next week.
The lap of luxury sleeper train is operated by Belmond who also run the Orient Express, the British Pullman, the Royal Scotsman and the Northern Belle luxury trains.
It can cater for 40 guests on each journey, with clients predominantly from the US, Germany, the UK and Australia. The train offers 16 twin and four double cabins for truly indulgent vacations and it boasts two fine dining restaurants, a luxurious lounge and a stylish observation area.
A ticket costs between €5,000 band €7,700 with meals, accommodation, entertainment and excursions included.
Its inaugural journey this month will be a four-night Legends and Loughs trip from Dublin to Cork and on to Killarney, Galway and Westport. A total of 20 trips in total are planned from now to October.
