A proposal to create to exit lanes at the for traffic approaching the Michael Moynihan Roundabout at Ballydowney from the Fossa direction has been brought before Killarney Municipal District Council.
Cllr John O’Donoghue said the road into town from Liebherr regularly gets congested and two lanes – one going in the direction of the Hans Liebherr Road and the other for traffic heading for St Margaret’s Road and Port Road – would greatly alleviate the problem.
“It would be of huge benefit for the people coming from the Fossa direction who are regularly held up there,” Cllr O’Donoghue said.
Council officials said the suggestion would be examined as part of future upgrades at the location.
As is stands, the entry width at the roundabout from the N72 Fossa road is 5.5m which is too narrow to delineate two lanes.
Widening this section of road would either potentially result in narrowing the 1.7m footpath at the Deenagh River bridge or reducing the island on that section of road.
