Killarney rolled out the red carpet to extend a very warm welcome to VIP visitors from one of its twin towns, Pleinfeld in Bavaria.

Mayor Stefan Frühwald and his wife, Silki, enjoyed many of the town’s great attractions and even had an opportunity to enjoy and participate in the 4th July Festival celebrations.

Pleinfeld is the most active Killarney’s many twin and sister towns and in September a group of 32 visitors will visit Kerry following as part of an exchange that saw members of the Killarney School of Music travel to perform in Bavaria in June.

A golf promotion programme is also planned between Killarney and Pleinfeld in September.

Pleinfeld is a village in the Bavaria region, close to the tourist hotspot of the Franconian Lake District, with a population of approximately 7,500 people.

In addition to the Bavarian town, Killarney is twinned with Kendal in Cumbria, St Avertin in France, Staffanstorp in Sweden, Castiglione di Sicilia in Italy and the US cities of Concord, Myrtle Beach, Cooper City and Springfield.
