An exhibition to celebrate the identity of the Traveller community in Ireland will be launched at the Kerry County Museum in Ashe Memorial Hall, Tralee at 11.00am on Thursday, May 30.
Entitled Embracing Our Heritage, the project is a partnership between Kerry Travellers Health and Community Development Project and Kerry County Museum.
One of the organisers, Richard O’Brien, said the exhibition will provide an opportunity for families, both Traveller and settled, to learn more about the traditions, values and culture of the Traveller community in Kerry.
“It aims to foster mutual understanding and appreciation of Traveller culture and heritage,” he said.
They will also unveil a new traditional Traveller camp model unveiled at the exhibition and that will go on permanent display in the museum.
