A section of Killarney town centre will be closed to traffic for a period of time on the night of Friday, December 1 to facilitate the ceremonial start of the 2023 Killarney Historic Rally.

The event will take place at 7.00pm outside the Killarney Plaza Hotel and the first stage of the rally will get underway the following morning.

The rally, sponsored this year by the Killarney Towers Hotel, will be formally launched next Sunday at 3.00pm with the entry list near capacity with nearly 70 genuine historic cars already pledged for the event.

“We will be in a position to announce some of the top entries at the launch,” said clerk of the course Anthony O’Connor.

Holding international recognition as Ireland’s foremost historic rally, the series attracts a substantial number of skilled competitors annually and details of a new route are expected to be announced at the launch.

Some favourite classics as well as former Rally of the Lakes roads not previously used in the Historic Rally will be included.

It has been confirmed, however, that this year’s rally will not feature the iconic Moll’s Gap stage as Kerry County Council is working on a section of road near the tunnel.
