TONIGHT’S the night for those who want to play a part in ensuring that Killarney is looking good all year long to make their voices are heard.
As part of the 60th anniversary of Tidy Towns contest, the Killarney Looking Good Committee is developing a long-term plan for the future development of the town and volunteers and the general public are invited to a workshop on the issue on this Wednesday in the Dromhall Hotel (7.00pm).
The event will give an overview of the Tidy Towns competition criteria and will for suggestions for projects and initiatives that are in keeping with the judging criteria. These include projects around sustainability, biodiversity, art, culture and the built environment.

The committee will be looking for people who may be interested in planning and implementing some of these projects and those interested in attending are asked to email killarneylookinggood@gmail com in advance of tonight’s meeting.
Meanwhile, the first batch of a whopping 60,000 flower bulbs being planted in Killarney to celebrate 60 years of the national Tidy Towns competition were put in place at the weekend.
Volunteers gathered to get the project underway and they lined a section of Mission Road with snowdrops and bluebells to add to the town’s visual image.
The project, which will take two years to complete, will also celebrate the enormous contribution made by local missionaries who served all over the world and to whom there is a memorial erected on Mission Road.
