Three priests to retire from Diocese of Kerry

Monsignor Dan O’Riordan is retiring from Castleisland

THREE long-serving priests in the Diocese of Kerry will retire on Wednesday, July 17.

Monsignor Dan O’Riordan in Castleisland, Fr Luke Roche in Castlemaine and Fr Tadhg Ó Dochartaigh in Firies will all step down from their positions.

The new PP in Castleisland will be Fr Mossie Brick who will transfer from Lixnaw, Fr Padraig Kennelly will move from Ballylongford to Firies and the parishes of Castlemaine and Kilcummin will be without a resident priest.

Other appointments announced include Fr Anthony O’Sullivan, who has served in Rathmore pro tem, to be PP in Lixnaw, Fr Michael Hussey, PP in Castlegregory to be PP in Ballylongford, Fr Eamon Mulvihill, PP in Kilcummin to be PP in Castlegregory, Fr Joe Begley, PP in Dingle to be PP in Glengarriff/Bonane and Fr Michael Moynihan PP in Glengarriff/Bonane to be PP in Dingle

The parish of Castlemaine will be served by the priests of the Killorglin Pastoral Area with Fr Kevin Sullivan to be moderator and the parish of Kilcummin will be served by the priests of the Killarney pastoral area with Fr Kieran O’Brien to be moderator

Fr Denis O’Mahony, PP in Abbeydorney will be the Vicar Forane of the Naomh Bhréanainn Pastoral Area and Fr Brendan Walsh, PP in Causeway will to be moderator of Ballyheigue.

Priests of all pastoral areas of the diocese will take up different responsibilities outside their own parishes and this will be decided and communicated locally.

The changes will become effective on Wednesday, July 17.
