
A CREW from Yellow Belly Brewery is planning to descend on Killarney with barrels of golden deliciousness and coal-black stout. Mountain Man, meanwhile, will be crawling down from a lofty perch in Cork and the Wicklow Wolf will be on the prowl.
They will all be part of the experience that will enable locals and hundreds of visitors to sample Ireland’s best craft beers with over 21 producers and more than 100 craft beverages on offer at the Killarney Beerfest from May 26 to 28.
Elite craft brewers will arrive at the INEC and Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney and bring with them kegs of tasty delights to quench the collective thirst of the festival fans who can enjoy beer tasting master classes, a gala awards ceremony, competitions, great cuisine in the tasty food village and live entertainment.
The various breweries will be putting their best new craft-mixtures up for consideration to see who rules the roost in 2017. The league of extraordinary beer drinkers, in the guise of Beoir Ireland, will once again host their awards programme at the festival with eight categories and the Beoir Champion Beer of Ireland will also be crowned at the festival.
Those that just want to sit back and sip their stout then will be treated to a great music line up will be with folk band Rackhouse Pilfer, trad heroes Beoga, fresh from collaborating with Ed Sheeran on his latest album Divide, as well as The Whileaways headlining Killarney Beerfest alongside The Small Hours, The Tom Cats, The Rising and DJs to keep fans supping happily.
The festival will feature some great workshops to learn about beer and food pairings with award-winning food writer and broadcaster Caroline Hennessy festival fans can also combine some of the finest craft beers with cheese for an insightful and exciting cheese and beer pairing hosted by Steve Lamond of Beoir.
Dean McGuinness of Newstalk’s Movies & Booze will present Beer Flavour in the Brain – an understanding of how our brains process the flavour of craft beer – and Christina Wade President of Ladies Craft Beer Society will highlight the role of women within the industry.
The guys who put the hip into hops, the National Homebrew Club, will also be rocking about leading brewing demo workshops which will help you learn more about your own homebrew bubbling away in the corner at home.
