A GIFTED artist, referred to simply as Mario, spent several hours creating a religious work of art on a popular Kerry beach to mark the Easter ceremonies.
A real labour of love, he started his sand drawing project on Ballybunion beach at 8.00am on Thursday and was still adding the finishing touches to his masterpiece five and a half hours later.
His sand engraving included the familiar fern of peace, the thorns of the cross and the three crosses.
It also features an empty tomb to symbolise the resurrection with another drawing alongside to acknowledge the 1916 Rising.
Photographs of Mario’s finished work were shared on social media by the Kerry Diocese and a spokesperson said: “Well done Mario. Thank you for this reflective beach art this Holy Thursday.”
