KILLARNEY was the trad music and culture capital of the country throughout the weekend and the town was packed for The Gathering Traditional Music Festival which is now firmly established as one of the premier events of its kind in the country.
The five-day festival included rousing concerts, packed ceilí dancing sessions, instrument masterclasses, set dance and sean nós workshops, numerous free music sessions, a full education programme and so much more.

Trad fans from the US, Britain, France, Germany and all over Ireland as well as many legends of the stage, including Uí Bhriain, Neily O’Connor, Striolán Céilí Band, Five Counties Céilí Band and Johnny Reidy.
The 2017 festival highlight acts included Steve Cooney, John Brosnan, Mike Brosnan, the Casey Sisters, Bríd Harper, Gerry O’Beirne and Dónal O’Connor.
On the programme for this this Sunday’s lively Scattering Concert was the John Carty Festival Band including John, James and Maggie Carty, Dermot Byrne, Jim Higgins, Shane McGowan and Goitse.
Budding musicians took in a schedule of gathering workshops and masterclasses including fiddle, accordion, concertina, harp, flute, set dancing, séan nós and voice.
