Thank you for the music, Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra

The main cast of the musical Treasa Cremin, Aoife Murphy, Ava Twomey, Ali Doyle, Saoirse Casey, Ciara Hughes, Lainey Harty, Tommy O’Connor, Sean O’Keeffe, Setanta O’Callaghan, Mollie Herlihy and Fionnán O’Donoghue

It was a case of the audience – not the winner – who got to take it all as the magic of ABBA came alive, in no uncertain terms, for Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra’s first ever school musical entitled Thank you for the Music.

Directed by the school’s music teacher, Rebecca Stryker, the entire production team of students and staff worked extremely hard to ensure that audiences were highly entertained and they did not disappoint.

Ali Doyle (playing Sophie) with members of the cast and chorus

The show contained a captivating storyline, lighthearted comedy and, of course, timeless music.

Preparations began last September when auditions took place and the lead cast and chorus members had been busy rehearsing ever since to ensure their first show was one to remember.

This was a whole-school event with cast and chorus members ranging from first to sixth year groups an many of the students involved have described the event as the highlight of their school year, an amazing experience and, overall, just great fun.

Dancing queens: Ciara Hughes, Saoirse Casey and Lainey Harty

The ABBA inspired musical was set on the little Greek island of Kalakari where Sophie dreams of a perfect wedding – one which includes her father giving her away.  The problem was that Sophie (played by Ali Doyle) didn’t know who he was.

Her mother Donna, (played by Saoirse Casey), refused to discuss the past, so Sophie sneaks a peek into her mother’s ancient diary, to discover three possible fathers, Sam, Bill, and Harry (played by Sean O’Keefe, Setanta O’Callaghan and Mollie Herlihy).
