DONATIONS received by the Kerry Friends of Motor Neurone Association since November 2019 have been handed over to the charity by the local branch.
A total of €10,500 was contributed to the cause from a number of sources and it will make a real difference in the lives of those living with the debilitating condition.
“We are so grateful to all our friends and supporters who never let us down, even in Covid times,” said Kerry branch chairman Christy Lehane.
“We had to put our many fundraising events on hold in 2020 and 2021 but we want all to know that this money will go to make end of life easier for motor neurone sufferers by providing specialist equipment, home help and Support and to pay specialist nurses’ salaries.
Over 86 per cent of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association’s annual income relies on fundraising and Mr Lehane described that fact as “a terrible situation”.
“I feel compelled to make a serious plea to the HSE, the government and local representatives to look favourably and address this awful situation,” he said.
