Fossa News
Fossa’s under 12s travelled to John Mitchels for the last game of phase one in the county league. Despite numbers being a little weak, Fossa fielded two teams on a perfect evening for football.
The first Fossa team started strongly and were soon on the scoreboard with some quickfire goals and well-worked points. Standing out for Fossa in midfield was Ted O’Gorman and Ronan Bennett whose energy levels never dipped throughout the game. In defence Rory Clancy and Cian Myers led the line while goalkeeper Karl James O’Neill made some great saves.
Scott Carlton was in great fielding form at half forward and chipped in with some important scores while Tadgh Kissane, Cathal Breen and David Butler all kept the scoreboard ticking over. The full back line was well marshalled by Jack Cronin who was ably assisted in linking up with the midfield by Roan Daly. Fossa ran out deserving winners by four points in a very entertaining game.
The second Fossa team, despite being short some players, put in a fantastic performance ably supported by the two late additions to the squad of Clodagh Clancy and Eva Cronin. This game ebbed and flowed throughout with Fossa in control for large portions of the game. Jamie Daly and Sam Clerkin had a fantastic game in midfield supported by Sean O’Donovan and Billy O’Sullivan.
Sean Dennehy marshalled the defence from the goalkeeping position while William Lyons and Dathi Kissane kept the Mitchels forwards under control. The all-female full forward line kept the scores coming. Despite a great team performance all over the pitch Fossa came up just short losing by a point. Well done to the entire under 12 squad on a great campaign which puts us in great shape for the county league in a couple of weeks.
Under 14: Fossa’s under 14s were away to Ardfert but went down on a score of 3-17 to 3-11. A bad start saw Fossa down by nine points at half-time but with 10 minutes to go, the match was level though Ardfert finished stronger. Best for Fossa were Patrick Lyons, Rocco Sheehan and Peter Kelliher.
Medal: Congratulations to Maud Kelly who won a Munster Championship medal with the Kerry under 16 girls when they defeated Tipperary on a score of 3-9 to 2-5. Well done Maud.
