
A CHARITY champion has tonight been named Kerry Person of the Year by the Kerry Association in Dublin.
Kerry Hospice Foundation chairman Ted Moynihan is a popular winner of the coveted award which will be presented at a gala ceremony in the coming weeks.
The hardworking Tralee man’s selection was formally announced by Kerry Association chairperson, Leesha Duffy, at a reception in Iveagh House in Dublin.
He is being honoured in recognition of the major contribution he had made to the foundation over the past 20 years and for his incredible work in spearheading developments and fundraising for hospice care.
The award has been presented annually since 1979 and previous high-profile recipients have included John B Keane, Con Houlihan, Dick Spring, Mick O’Connell, Denis Brosnan, Dr Bryan MacMahon, Páidí Ó Sé, Mick O’Dwyer and Professor Brendan Kennelly.
Killarney people honoured with the Person of the Year award included Pat O’Connell (1982), Eamonn Kelly (1983), Paddy Culligan (1994), Brian O’Mahony (2002), Denis Geaney (2004), Seán Kelly (2008) and Archdeacon Michael Murphy (2014).
