There has been a total breakdown in services for people with eye ailments in University Hospital Kerry, a Kerry TD has claimed.
Deputy Michael Healy-Rae said he is looking for answers from the Minister for Health and he urged him to resume the ophthalmology services in the hospital as soon as possible.
“With patient numbers increasing and the growing incidence of chronic diseases, I appreciate there can be an enormous strain on the current model of eye care delivery but closing down the services is not the answer,” he said.
Deputy Healy-Rae added that eye care services in UHK have completely ceased since December 2023 due to contractual issues which need to be updated.
“The changes necessary have been agreed with the acute services but not by the community services. There is massive problems and clinical issues arising for patients out of
this debacle,” he added.
