FLEMING’S Taxis rolled into Killarney Athletic FC’s headquarters in Woodlawn last night and left with an extra passenger – the Over 35 cup in the Killarney Credit Union sponsored seven-a-side soccer tournament.
They had too much power for Tim Jones Butchers and they emerged with a comfortable 2-0 victory after an entertaining encounter.
Shane Horgan opened the scoring with a first half goal and David Looney followed with a second half strike to make it three-in-a-row for Fleming’s Taxis who have become real Over 35 seven-a-side specialists.
The cup was presented to team captain Alan Brady by Pat Delaney and Stephen Darmody of Killarney Credit Union.
Off the field, Killarney Athletic will mark the 40th year of the seven-a-side with a celebration and awards night in McSorley’s on Friday night from eight until late.
Everyone is welcome to this social night as the club will have some memorabilia on display charting some of the four decades of summer sevens.
The club has thanked all those involved in making this year’s tournament a great success, including Killarney Credit Union and their representatives Pat Delaney, Emma Looney and Stephen Darmody, all the teams that took part and their sponsors, referees, press and tournement organisers Colette Casey, Tom Tobin, Toirdealbhach O’Lionaird and Lorraine Fleming.
