A LUCKY young Killarney woman is now driving around in the most sought after deal on wheels in the county.
Tara Buckley from Crohane, Fossa, was the winner of a painstakingly restored Land Rover 90 which was the stunning first prize in the bumper Killarney Valley Classic and Vintage Club charity draw.
Her name was plucked from the packed draw drum by club sponsor Mike Moriarty at the Innisfallen Hotel in Fossa on Saturday night. Tara, a daughter of dedicated club member Padraig Buckley, purchased the winning ticket at the club’s vintage car show in July.
What was once a battered old 1989 Land Rover Defender was lovingly restored and given a whole new lease of life by a group of dedicated volunteers from the club. The club sourced the old vehicle in Cork and as it had been off the road since 2002, there was just 82,000 miles on the clock.

They devoted their time and know-how to the exciting restoration project and they opted to raffle the new-look vehicle for Kerry Down Syndrome and Recovery Haven Cancer Support Group.

The restoration was a huge project for the club to undertake and the costs involved were quite substantial but the restored jeep was afforded the perfect finish.
Members worked on the full restoration of the chassis, the full respray of the body parts and the extensive cosmetic facelift of the interior without the vehicle losing any of its original character.
The project managers for the Land Rover restoration were James Looney and John Coffey.
Second prize in the draw went to Paddy Power of Carrick-on-Suir who won a €1,200 voucher for MD O’Shea’s, third prize of a John Deere lawnmower went to Charlie Joe, fourth prize of a two night stay in Parknasilla Hotel went to Ger Culloty, Tralee, first prize of a night in the Woodlands Hotel in Adare was won by Jer Healy, Killarney and sixth prize of a €200 fill of oil went to Rachel Snooke, Killarney.© KillarneyToday.com: Advertise with us: Over 300,000 views every month.
