Vintage run

tracotr club picThe Killarney Valley Classic and Vintage Club raised a cool €1,000 for the Kerry-Cork Health Link Bus during the course of an action-packed charity drive this month.

A total of 38 cars and 35 tractors took part in the successful event which was made even better by the fabulous weather conditions.

The charity drive was followed by finger food, a raffle and entertainment provided by the Killarney School of Music at the Travel Inn, Fossa.

The club has thanked everyone who took part on the day and an open invitation has been issued to the public to join the members for any future events. Keep an eye on the club’s Facebook page for more details.

Tourism event

Destination Killarney and Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce will host a special summer information evening at the INEC on Wednesday, April 30 at 6.30pm. There is an open invitation and all are welcome to attend.

Killarney has a packed schedule of events lined up for the summer, including three race meetings, the Munster Fleadh, Run Killarney Marathon and Adventure Race, Gleneagle Summer Cabaret and entertainment at the INEC.

A number of representatives will be on hand to talk about these events along with a whole host of other festivals and initiatives and the potential of adventure tourism.

Chamber lunch

Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce will hold what has been described as an important members’ lunch at the Brehon Hotel, Killarney on Thursday, May 1.

A number of very important issues relating to the future of the greater Killarney area will be discussed and the 16 candidates for the local elections in the Killarney area have been invited to attend.

Unions meet

Killarney is playing host to the Public Service Executive Union this week with over 350 delegates expected at the Gleneagle Hotel.

The same venue will also host the Mandate trade union conference on Sunday and Monday and the Malton Hotel will be the venue for the Garda Representative Association conference, with over 160 divisional representatives, from Monday to Wednesday next week.

Lily blooms

This year’s Lily of Killarney pageant, organised by the ladies committee of Spa GAA club, will be held on Friday, May 30.

The venue this year will be the Killarney Heights Hotel and several young ladies, representing local businesses and community organisations, will by vying for the title.

Mickey’s role

Former Kerry team boss Mickey Ned O’Sullivan has been appointed to the board of the South West Counselling Centre in Killarney.

Fr Padraig Breheny, the guardian at the Franciscan Friary in Killarney, also joins the board.
