Surveys to commence on route for new bypass

The planned N22 Farranfore to Killarney scheme will come with an estimated price tag of €200 million

THE preferred route for the proposed new bypass rod between Killarney and Farranfore is expected to be determined by the middle of 2022, Kerry County Council has said.

Consultants have been appointed to carry put traffic surveys throughout the month of November and their findings will help identify the most suitable route and, when that happens, further public consultations will take place.

Cllr Maura Healy-Rae: Queries on road plans

Subject to the necessary approvals, it is expected that design work would commence in the final quarter of next year when a planning application will be submitted.

In accordance with government requirements on public spending on major capital projects, the development of the scheme will require ongoing technical and financial appraisals which will be submitted to Transport Infrastructure Ireland, the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform and Government for consideration and approval at various stages of the development.

The development of the route currently has a price tag of €200 million.

The information was provided to Cllr Maura Healy-Rae who asked for an update on the project and queried when the preferred route will be chosen.
