The big one has been scheduled.
Kerry will play Mayo in the round-robin stage of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship at Killarney’s Fitzgerald Stadium on Saturday, May 20 with a 3.00pm throw-in time.
The town will be packed for the eagerly-awaited clash of the old rivals with Jack O’Connor’s Munster champions going toe-to-toe with Kevin McStay’s charges.
The big game is expected to be a sell-out and it will bring a massive early season boost to the town with hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and pubs expected to be packed with the mid-afternoon throw-in time guaranteeing a great atmosphere before and after the game.
The game will provide a stern test for Kerry following their 14-point hammering of Clare at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick on Sunday.
Kerry captain David Clifford, despite the personal trauma of losing his mother, Ellen, the previous day, was Clare’s tormentor-in-chief with a personal haul of 2-6 while there were also hugely impressive performances from Spa’s Dara Moynihan – playing one of his best games in a Kerry jersey for some time – Seanie O’Shea, Gavin White, Paudie Clifford and goalkeeper Shane Ryan who made one terrific save and his distribution was first class all afternoon.
