THE Dr Crokes senior ladies claimed the Division 3 County League with an emphatic display of clinical football and A wonderful never-say-die attitude. The girls came from five points down in the first half to win the game with plenty to spare. This is a young team and the future looks to be bright for ladies’ football in the club.

The game was played in Listry against Kilcummin, who had beaten the girls in an early round, but they learned and made sure it was not going to happen again.

Some wonderful scores from Kate Stack, Amanda Brosnan, Edel Cronin and the wonderful passing by Reanne O’Shea, Liz Moloney and Megan Buckley was a joy to watch.

The half backs found Christine Cooper running freely and Kayleigh Cronin was a huge barrier to Kilcummin getting anywhere near the Crokes goal. The half time score was 1-6 to 0-10 in favour of Dr Crokes.

The second half was more productive and the girls drove their advantage. Edel Cronin scored 1-2 and Megan Buckley also goaled to kill the game as a contest. Points from Kate Stack and a final goal from Marian O’Callaghan meant the contest was well and truly over.

There was some wonderful defending by Siobhan Burns, and ably assisted by Roisin Doherty, Edel Carroll, a superb keeper at the tender age of 14, and captain Karina O’Leary kept Kilcummin to five points in the second half with three of those frees.

Megan Kiely was introduced early in the game and was a terrific outlet for the defence. Manager and coach Brendan O’Connor hailed the girls for their hard work all year and indeed the girls rewarded his unselfish efforts with a truly worthy performance.

The final score was Dr Crokes 3-14 Kilcummin 1-11. Selectors Mark Cooper, Catherine Keogh and Jason Stack are to be commended for their work as well.

On a sad note, it was to be the final performance by a ladies stalwart Edel O’Carroll who is heading to Australia for a time. We wish her all the very best and she will be hugely missed but she will strengthen a team in Australia and of that there is no doubt.

Seniors: Despite a nine points victory, 0-15 to 0-6, the O’Donoghue Cup quarter-final encounter with Listry was not a one-sided game. Listry were very competitive throughout and made us work hard to gain possession and record scores. We did, however, score from long range better than them and had six players on the scoresheet.
Crokes got off to a good start and had four unanswered points in the first seven minutes. Listry had a point in the ninth minute but the last 20 minutes belonged to Crokes as we sent over six points without reply from six different scorers, to go in at half time 0-10 to 0–1 ahead.
In the first few minutes of the second half Listry notched two points to our one. For the next five minutes we again got a grip on the game, scoring three points and went into an 11-points lead.

With 20 minutes to go, Listry had their most productive time in the game and they sent over three points without reply.  The final score of the game fell to our Tony Brosnan, a point in the last minute.
Our mentors will have been happy with our display as we approach next weekend’s Munster Club Championship game, away to the Clare winners.
Team and scorers: Shane Murphy (0-1; 45), David O’Leary, Mike Moloney, Luke Quinn, Fionn Fitzgerald, Eoin Brosnan, PJ Lawlor, Ambrose O’Donovan, Mike Milner, Brian O’Shea (0-3), Daithi Casey (0-5, 0 2 frees), Jordan Kiely (0-1), Tony Brosnan (0-2), Kieran O’Leary (0-3), Jamie Doolan.
Subs: Jason Lyne, Andrew Kennelly, Mark Egan.
Under 16: After 160 minutes of football, two drawn games and extra time, the Dr Crokes boys dug deep and, with great resolve and no little skill, registered a fantastic victory over Fossa by the narrowest of margins, 2-15 to 2-14, to claim the Under 16 East Kerry Championship. What a game, what a win and it was no more than this team deserved.
With the aid of a good breeze, Crokes entered an early lead, primarily through the boot of Seán Magann while Roan Delaney created trouble up front and was double-marked. Meanwhile, David O’Mahony and the full-back line of Mark Cooper, Caolan Ryan and Ger Cronin kept Fossa’s firing power at bay.

The major score in the first half followed a good piece of flowing play from the Crokes’ side that ended in a shot, which was parried, only for Josh Fleming to pounce and rattle the net.
Playing against a stiff wind in the second half, our first half lead was lost. Captain Fionnbharr Hickey, Seán O’Neill and Gary O’Connor mastered at midfield and nullified the opposition danger from that source. Harry Potts and Lorcan O’Hare-Wyatt made a huge impact on the game with man-of-the-match Fionn O’Doherty sweeping up everything that came his way. At full time the sides were still level and extra time was called.
Lee Downing and Eoin Moynihan kept the pressure on and a fantastic goal was manufactured, brilliantly finished off by Michael Lenihan. A late Fossa penalty against us left the last few minutes with a lot of defending to do but Crokes defended solidly with confidence and finished the game off with a well-deserved win to become East Kerry Champions.
