Sun shines down on Kerry Airport

The twice weekly service will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays

KERRY Airport chairman, Denis Cregan, has welcomed the “positive” announcement by Junior Tourism and Transport Minister, Brendan Griffin, that a contract has been awarded to Stobart Air to operate the Public Service Obligation air route linking Kerry Airport with Dublin for the next four years.

The contract, which will come into force on February 1, will allow the existing two daily flights between Kerry and Dublin to continue uninterrupted until January 2022.

“Passengers booking flights with Aer Lingus Regional between Kerry and Dublin will ultimately benefit from Stobart Air’s familiarity of the route while the continuation of the PSO will be a major positive step for both Kerry Airport and business and tourist interests of the county,” Mr Cregan said.

Meanwhile, Kerry Airport and Ryanair have confirmed the return of the popular summer sun route direct from Farranfore to Faro in Portugal.

Denis Cregan: positive news

The twice weekly service will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays for the months of June, July, August and September with the first flight starting on June 2.

“This nicely complements our existing Alicante series operating on Mondays and Fridays. Faro has been serviced from Kerry since 2010 and Airport management made a strong case to our colleagues in Ryanair to continue the series for 2018,” Mr Cregan stated.

“We are particularly delighted to advise that the flights extend into September giving an additional nine flights over last season.

Kerry-Faro flights will depart on Tuesdays and Saturdays with in-bound flights on the same days.
