IT just wouldn’t be Summer in Killarney without the annual Killarney Athletic seven-a-side soccer tournament which has been an exciting sporting feature in the town for the past 42 years.
This year’s spectacle, again sponsored by Killarney Credit Union, will kick off on Monday, June 25 at the Killarney Athletic grounds in Woodlawn.
There will be a range of accolades up for grabs including the Premier and Reserve Cups, the Kieran Cahillane Senior Player of the Tournament Award for the outstanding player on view and the Johnny Heffernan Underage Player of the Tournament Award.
There will be free entry to the 2019 tournament for the Premier Cup winners.
“Killarney Credit Union is proud to be the main sponsor of this event and we would like to wish the organisers and all participants the best of luck in this year’s tournament,” said Credit Union Chairman, Pat Sheehan.
Application forms are available from the Beech Road and Park Road branches of Killarney Credit Union and at www.killarneyathletic.com. The entry fee for senior men is €200; it’s €150 for over 35s and ladies, €100 for under 16 and under 14 and €75 for under 10 and under 12 players.
The closing date and time for senior entries – to be returned to the Credit Union – is 12 noon on Saturday, June 9 before 12.00 noon. The draw will take place the following Wednesday in Scott’s Bar, at 9.00pm. The closing date for entry to the underage tournaments will be announced shortly.
