Summer boost for local schools

SEVERAL Killarney schools are to receive small financial sums to enable them to complete minor building works under the government’s summer works scheme.

The 586-pupil St Brigid’s Presentation Secondary School will receive funding for electrical work as will the adjacent St Brendan’s College where there are 506 pupils enrolled.

Currow Primary School and Anabla National School will get finance for mechanical work while Knockanes Primary School, which has 75 pupils, received support for similar work.

A total of 21 primary and post primary schools in Kerry will benefit from the summer works scheme.

It is part of a national investment of almost €36 million in the first round of school improvements to be undertaken this coming summer.

The schools will receive funding to carry out small and medium scale building works for gas, electrical and mechanical works.

A second round of the scheme, which will cover other types of improvement works, will be revealed in coming weeks.
