Students snap up photo lessons

TRANSITION Year students at Killarney Community College put themselves in the picture when they completed an informative and creative course with local photographer Breda Daly.

They examined abstract photography, self-portraits, indoor work and pop culture photography as well as photo manipulation over a number of weeks.

Transition Year co-ordinator and teacher, Kerri McCarthy, said the students excelled in their photography skills and the passion of some future photographers and photo editors was very evident.

“The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They discovered practical camera skills, including how to manipulate images through Photoshop,” she said.

“They were so engaged and interested in learning about photography. A most worthwhile experience was had by all the students,” Ms McCarthy added.

TY student Michelle O’Sullivan said it was a great experience and she would love to do it again.

“I will never look at a photograph the way same again,” she remarked.

Her classmate, Mutaz Almusawi, commented: “It was a great opportunity to learn the skills of photography. There was so much we did not know and now we have learned how to capture amazing photographs.”
