A KILLARNEY store that helps charities at every available opportunity has made a significant donation to a worthy Kerry cause.

Members of the Kerry Cancer Support Group-Health Link Transport were presented with a cheque for £2,000 by Norma Burke, Assistant Manager of Pavers in the Killarney Outlet Centre.

Pavers international established a foundation to enable its 1,700 staff and customers to support charities and the amount pledged to good causes has risen to a cool £2.5 million, which includes employee grant applications and donations. mEach staff member can put forward causes close to their heart which relate to health, education, or community.

The Kerry donation will be used to complement and enhance the existing services that Kerry Cancer Support Group provides. This includes the service which runs buses to hospitals in Cork and Limerick transporting patients for their daily cancer treatment, delivery of awareness programmes to schools and groups in the region and provision of an emergency driving service which transports service users where no other service can help them.

At the official launch of the Kerry-Limerick Health Link Bus service were, Josephine Earls, UHL; Breda Dyland and Trish Kelly, Kerry Cancer Support Group; Ann Harnett, Mater Private Limerick; Des O’Halloran Kerry Cancer Support Group; Marie Claire O’Toole, Mater Private Limerick. Dan Horan, Kerry Cancer Support Group; Patrick King, and Mazen  el Bassiouni, Mater Private Limerick with, at back, Chris Robbins, Paudie Collins and Mark Collins, Kerry Cancer Support Group

The Kerry Cancer Support Group was established in 2007 and has been transporting the people of Kerry and west Cork to hospitals in Cork for their cancer treatment since 2010. In the past year it has started a similar service to Limerick looking after north Kerry and west Limerick.

The group’s motto is that one should face their cancer journey alone and having covered up to 21,000 appointments in the past nine years, those involved hope that they are living up to that. The group also provides information and support to families experiencing cancer and to schools and groups in the region with their different campaigns.

Norma Burke of Pavers in Killarney said: “I chose to support the Kerry Cancer Support Group as while I was on maternity leave, my baby and often met the bus on our early morning walks. I would see people going from their own cars, leaving their loved ones to get on the bus.

“The people always had a smile on their face when getting on the bus, which I thought was amazing because of what they knew was ahead of them that day”.

Breda Dyland, Manager of the Kerry Cancer Support Group said: “We were absolutely delighted. The donation will be put to very good use”.
