Fáilte Ireland has welcomed the latest release from the Central Statistics Office which confirmed a strong recovery for domestic tourism in 2022.
This included 13.3 million domestic trips taken in 2022 and an increase in spend by 36 per cent from 2019.
“These results are hugely positive for tourism and for our economy,” Fáilte Ireland CEO Paul Kelly said in correspondence to tourism service providers in Kerry.

“They show the passion that consumers have for discovering our beautiful country and experiencing the many quality visitor experiences that Ireland is famous for,” he added
Mr Kelly said Fáilte Ireland recently the first-ever employer excellence awards ceremony in the Guinness Storehouse which celebrated businesses who have demonstrated their commitment to making the tourism industry an appealing and rewarding place to work through their participation in the Fáilte Ireland programme.
“These awards will help drive a further improvement in the both the quality and the perception of careers in the tourism sector,” he stated.
The tourism organisation stressed, however, that rising insurance costs and difficulties securing affordable liability insurance is having a significant impact on tourism.
“This issue is particularly acute within adventure tourism, festivals and events. Not only does this have implications on jobs and revenue but it also has the potential to seriously undermine Ireland’s overall tourism offering,” the organisation stated.
