The school community in Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra in Rathmore is very proud of the achievement of fifth year student Eoin Cashman in the CSO National Statistics Competition 2025.
Eoin’s entry was initially judged in two phases by teams of statisticians from the Central Statistics Office and it was then shortlisted for the final judging phase.
“It is a fantastic achievement to receive such an accolade. Congratulations to both Eoin and to his maths teacher, Catherine Kiely,” said principal Mairéad Lucey.
The competition, now in its 15th year, evaluated students’ abilities to identify a real-world problem within their environment and with the help of statistics describe, analyse and interpret their findings in written and graphical form on a poster.
Eoin’s research focused on orbital eccentricity and its effect on stability impressed in the senior category and he will receive his certificate at the awards ceremony in Croke Park in October.
