WILL Kieran Donaghy’s star keep on rising to enable him to realise his dream of captaining the county he has served so well?

Or could Donnchadh Walsh be rewarded with the skipper’s armband for years of incredible toil and effort as one of the most effective inter-county players in the country?

All will be revealed shortly after 4pm in Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney on Sunday when Austin Stacks and Mid Kerry renew battle to determine who will be crowned this year’s Kerry senior football champions.

The throw-in time for the big match is at 2.45pm and it will be preceded by the Under 21 club final between An Ghaeltacht and Dr Crokes at 1pm.

Kerry County Board PRO, John O’Leary, said there will be ticket vans in operation outside the ground, at both Lewis Road and the Dalton’s Avenue end, and tickets can be purchased from 11.30am.

Admission is €15 and €10 for students and OAPs with valid ID. Juveniles (under 16) will not need a ticket and will be admitted free of charge through the designated family turnstiles.

There will be a special pass gate at each end for pass holders who will not need to queue at the ticket van.

Wheelchair entry is by way of the usual entry point in Dalton’s Avenue.

Mr O’Leary said: “Patrons are asked to purchase tickets in advance where at all possible through the various ticket outlets at Garvey’s SuperValu stores in Dingle, Tralee and Castleisland, Peter Keane’s in Killorglin, participating SuperValu and Centra stores around the county and the Kerry GAA Store in Killarney.”

Students and OAPs who purchase adult tickets at these outlets in advance will get €5 refunded at the special concession gate that will be in operation on the production of a valid ID.

The Killorglin and District Pipe Band will once again provide the entertainment and a souvenir programme for the final, priced at €2, will be on sale.

The referee for Sunday’s game is Padraig O’Sullivan of Firies.

Dr Crokes players and officials, meanwhile, will be maintaining a watching brief from the stands and terraces to see if they will get to represent Kerry in this year’s Munster and All-Ireland Club Championship.

Should Stacks triumph, the Tralee club will automatically qualify to do so but Mid Kerry, as a divisional outfit, will not be able to contest the club series.
