Stacks legend to take over Kerry team

Wayne Quillinan :Led Stacks to the county championship win

Wayne Quillinan is expected to be ratified as the new Kerry minor football manager on Monday night.

He will succeed James Costello and the challenge of the new role comes after his Austin Stacks side made their exit from the Kerry senior championship after an extra time epic against Feale Rangers on Saturday night.

Quillinan, a very popular figure in the game, has just finished his second four-year stint with Stacks who he guided to Bishop Moynihan Cup final success last year and three county club titles in a row from 2019. The highlight of his managerial career was that local derby decider win against fierce rivals Kerins O’Rahillys last season.

During his tenure players of the calibre of Joe O’Connor, Dylan Casey, Jack O’Connor and Greg Horan made the breakthrough to the Kerry senior panel.

Quillinan is expected to be offered an initial two-year term as minor manager and his name will be put before county bard delegates tomorrow night.

It is reported that a number of other names were in contention, including former Kerry stars Marc Ó Sé and Liam Hassett, but Quillinan was the chosen one.
