A MAN is currently being detained at Killarney Garda Station following the fatal stabbing of a male in Caherciveen in the early hours of this Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at around 4.30am in a house at Fertha Drive.
A 33-year-old man suffered serious stab wounds and was rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Kerry where he was pronounced dead.
A 20-year-old man was arrested a short time later and was brought to Killarney Garda Station where he is being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. It is understood that both men were local.
The coroner for Kerry, Helen Lucey, has been informed of the incident and a post mortem examination is expected to take place later today.
Gardai have sealed off the area in Caherciveen and it has been preserved for a technical examination by officers from the Garda Technical Bureau.
