A post mortem examination on the body of a man who was fatally stabbed in Tralee last night is due to take place at University Hospital Kerry.
His remains were removed from the scene at the Abbey Court apartment complex and brought to the hospital morgue this Monday afternoon.
The man, named locally as Tralee native Joe Brosnan, aged in his 50s, was pronounced dead shortly after 7 o’clock on Sunday night when gardai and other emergency service personnel arrived at the scene in the town centre.
Officers from the Garda Technical Bureau and an official from the state pathologist’s office examined the scene and gardai conducted door-to-door enquiries to determine if anybody had seen or heard anything in the lead up to or during the incident.
Gardai arrested a man, aged in his 50s, in relation to the incident on Sunday night and a second man, in his 30s, on Monday and they were detained at Tralee and Killarney garda stations respectively.
Appealing for witnesses to come forward, gardaí are particularly interested in hearing from anybody who was in the vicinity of Abbey Court apartments, Denny Lane or Denny Street areas between 6.30pm and 7.00pm on Sunday.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Tralee Garda Station on 066-7102300 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666111.
