THE Covid-19 pandemic is a particular worry for the 11,200 people in Kerry with asthma and their families and while they are not more likely to contract the virus, they may experience more severe symptoms if they do.
To help create awareness and to generate funds to keep members fully informed, the Asthma of Society of Ireland today launched a 10 Million Steps for Asthma virtual fundraiser as part of the week-long Asthma Awareness Week which gets underway this Friday.
Due to current lockdown, this year’s Walk for Asthma event – the charity’s biggest fundraiser – had to be cancelled but the 10 Million Steps for Asthma virtual fundraiser will help fill the void.
The campaign crew has drafted in the help of well-known sports stars and celebrities including former Kerry footballer and five-time All-Star Tomás Ó Sé, rugby legends Tommy Bowe, Seán Cronin, Brent Pope and Ollie Campbell, social media influencers Emma Clifford and Niamh Webb O’Rourke and podcaster and drag queen Davina Devine.
They will be stepping up for asthma and appealing to the people of Ireland to walk, run or dance 10,000 steps every day during Asthma Awareness Week to help achieve 10 million steps collectively.
Participants are asked to log their steps and donate on www.asthma.ie/10-million-steps-for-asthma or to donate on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or IDonate and to nominate friends to get involved too.
