WHAT is being billed as a memorandum of understanding between two local sporting organisations has been officially signed.

The Kingdom Wheelblasters and Killarney Valley AC insist there can be mutually beneficial opportunities from a collaboration between both clubs that will foster a greater understanding of inclusiveness, with a shared joy of participation in athletics.

The Kingdom Wheelblasters is an Irish Wheelchair Association affiliated club made up of members with physical disabilities.

The twinning agreement was signed by the Mayor of Kerry, Cllr Norma Foley, Tom Doherty on behalf of Killarney Valley AC and Tadgh Buckley, Chairman of Kingdom Wheelblasters.

The intention is to further increase athletic involvement and to highlight the joy and health benefits of participation and to exchange experiences and to create awareness and understanding of inclusion.

Both clubs also want to encourage and facility all-inclusive hosting of athletic events.

“The idea behind the twinning agreement is to enhance universal awareness of ability with a disability and to foster shared interests in the world of athletics,” said Tom Doherty, Disability Liaison Officer with Killarney Valley AC.
