Spooky Sprint to raise funds for two great causes

Getting ready for the spooky gathering in Kilcummin are Joanne O’Sullivan, Ciara O’Leary, Emma Nagle, Alex and Connie Lawlor and Eileen Nagle

Things will go bump in broad daylight in Kilcummin as spooks and vampires, ghosts and ghoul – and everything in-between – will be gather for the return of the Spooky Sprint on Sunday, October 29 with a start time of 12 noon.

The family fun run or walk event and prelude to Halloween is run by the Kilcummin National School Parents’ Association and it will raise funds for the Kerry Stars Special Olympics Club and also Kilcummin National School.

Kerry Stars Special Olympic Club’s objective was and still is to provide athletes with special needs the opportunity to be productive and respected members of society through participation in an all year round sports and competition programme.

“This fundraiser will be a great event for all families and both our club and Kilcummin School will benefit from its success,” a spokesperson for the club stated.

Parents’ Association chairperson, Joanne O’Sullivan said it’s a great opportunity for everyone to dust off their costumes before Halloween night.

Ann Marie O’Leary, one of the organisers of the event

“The fundraising part of the day is really important and it is great the event will be supporting two organisations this year,” she said.

“We also want to make sure that it’s a great family event where everyone can really enjoy all aspects of the Halloween season, so we’re encouraging everyone, children and adults, to come out in costume and make the most of the day”.

The day will include the popular best carved pumpkin competition and Ann Marie O’Leary, one of the organisers of the event, said it is hoped all the boys and girls will come on the day with their pumpkins carved creatively.

Registration for the fun run will commence at 11.30am in the school hall and everyone is welcome. There will be fun and games, best costume prizes, refreshments, home baking, treats, face painting, a raffle and spot prizes on the day.

To date Spooky Sprint has raised €6,500 and it’s hoped that this year’s event will be just as successful as previous years.
