There is a whirlwind of excitement in the air as talented students, under the direction of producer Mike Lynch and musical director Joanna Hughes, will turn the children’s classic into a piece grounded in reality which will transport the audience into a world filled with laughter and enchantment.
The entire show is produced in-house, including the creation of all costumes, props, stage, sets and print material with all departments, both students and teachers, contributing their best.
Preparations for this year’s panto have been underway since the start of the school year and the show debuts on Tuesday, November 14, with a matinee show for fifth class pupils, followed by two evening shows on that night and on the Wednesday night.
The students will ‘lion’ up the stage to showcase their incredible talent and the halls of Killarney Community College will be looking as vibrant as Emerald city itself.

Music teacher and musical director Joanna Hughes said there are big shoes to fill for this year’s show following on from last year’s outstanding performance of Cinderella.
Maths teacher and show producer, Mike Lynch, remarked: “The students and staff have been putting in an enormous amount of time and effort with many staying back for hours after school and giving up their free time on Saturdays”.
He said from the set design to the costumes and lighting, everyone is putting in their heart and soul into the production.
“The energy around the school is palpable and I can’t wait to see the final performance,” Mike added.
The students, teachers and parents and families are eagerly counting down the days until they step onto the stage and showcase their long-awaited performance.
Tickets for the panto are on sale from the school office.
