‘Some people have no respect for their community or neighbourhood’

Cllr Martin Grady removing the dumped gas heater

A Killarney councillor, who personally removed an old gas heater dumped in a public place on Sunday night, has slated whoever was responsible for the reckless act.

Cllr Martin Grady was contacted by a concerned local woman who pointed out that the appliance had been left at the side of the road near the bridge on Countess Road, close to the junction with Park Road.

He drove there and removed it in the boot of his car to be disposed of properly.

”Some people have no respect for their community or neighbourhood,” an irate Cllr Grady said.

“This hindered the safety of motorists and cyclists and it shows nothing but disrespect and laziness”.

Cllr Grady said the heater was recyclable and it could have been disposed of free of change at the council’s civic amenity site.

“One local refuse tip actually pays money for scrap metal,” he remarked.

Cllr Grady asked anybody with any information on who was responsible to contact the authorities.

“There isn’t a fine big enough for these people,” he said.
